About Me

Cleveland, Ohio, United States
I am a retired teacher with time on my hands. I love to cook and bake. For the past eight years my hobby has been entering recipe contests. I have done very well and have been to several cook/bake offs although I have never won a grand prize. The ititials of my blog CCC are the same as the site where I get contest information, Cooking Contest Central (CCC). While there are 1000's of food blogs that post recipes this blog will review other cooking blogs.

My new puppy

I got a new puppy on Thursday night.  She is a mini Jack Russell terrier.  I have named her Cracker Jaxx.

We went to the vet on Friday morning.  She is 6 weeks old and weighs 1 pound and 15 ounces.  She is too small for any puppy shots.  We go back on June 6th to get the required puppy actions.

Foodie Penpal - April 2013 report

My foodie penpal for April 2013 was Dawn who sent me a assortment of mostly Asian products.  The rice noodles and the soba noodles will be used to make pasta salads on hot summer evenings.    The Asian Stirfry Mix and the Golden Curry Sauce Mix will make a quick dinner. I have already eaten the Chocolate Covered Biscuits and can report they were good.  I have never eaten roasted chestnuts but now I have a reason.

Thank you, Dawn (www.spatulasonparade.blogspot.com)

FOODIE PEN PAL REPORT

I actually have two (2) foodie penpal gifts to report on this month. My foodie penpal for the month of March was Erin Nehems (erinnehms@aol.com ) Erin sent me a delightful box filled with mostly organic products. There was a bag of organic coffee and a box of Brewhaha Super Tea. I can use both of these in my Keurig Brewer. There was also a tin of Mandy’s Dark Chocolate Cookie Thins. I am enjoying a cup of tea and a couple of cookies as I type this review I will enjoy the Willamette Valley Honey-Nut Granola Chips. Rounding out Erin’s box was a box of Devil’s Food Cake Mix and a wonderful recipe for a zucchini-chocolate cake. THANK YOU ERIN.

My foodie pen pal for February was Carrie (carriesteinweg.com ) Because of circumstances beyond the control of either of us my February box did not arrive until March. It was worth the wait. Carrie sent me two jars of Dickinsons jam (Pure Patterson Apricot Preserves and Pacific Mountain Strawberry Preserves). Also in the box were South Bend Chocolate Turtles and Assorted Chocolates. A South Bend Chocolate Bar was also in the box. Lucy’s original granola, Constant Comment Tea and Land O Lakes Coco Classics rounded out the box. All of Carrie’s selections will keep me in treats for a long time to come. THANKS!!

Lindsay at the Lean Green Bean (foodiepenpals@gmail.com ) runs the program. There are over 1000 people who participate in the program. Each month you are assigned a person to send package to and each month you receive a box from someone. The person you send a box to is not the same person you receive one from. If interested in joining please email Lindsay.
